The 6th Annual ADORE: A Day of Recognition Event took place at the Hope Institute Learning Academy on Saturday April 13, 2013. This event honored parents and caregivers of children with special needs. Participants had the opportunity to attend over 22 workshop sessions offered in English & Spanish on topics ranging from understanding Individualized Education Plans to stress management techniques for parents. Over 20 community organizations also offered information and resources. “What the ADORE event did for me was provide me with more resources to put into my toolkit […] It was amazing the wealth of information offered just at the resource tables,” said one parent. The event closed with raffle prizes made possible by local merchants and donors, as well as an opportunity for participants to discuss how they support the special needs of their children to help them succeed.
ADORE is a collaboration between the University of Illinois Center for Literacy, City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services, the HOPE Institute and multiple community partners.
