ESL Classes Explore the Christkindl Market Chicago is a Classroom

ESL students from St. Joseph, Chicago Lawn, and Peck had the opportunity to celebrate the festive holiday spirit downtown as well as the Christkindl Market at Daley Plaza. St. Joseph and Chicago Lawn students had also been reading and researching their own cultural holiday traditions and celebrations and comparing them with U.S. and Chicago holiday traditions.
Students worked on presenting their findings to their classmates through VoiceThread.com, a website that allows students to upload pictures and record themselves. For many learners, this was their first time presenting using a computer. Students enjoyed being able to celebrate their hard work by going downtown and the Christkindl Market. Many students celebrated by drinking delicious hot chocolate, exploring the city, and checking out the beautiful holiday decorations inside Macy’s on State Street.
