Verónica Ocampo is an ESL instructor in the UIC FAmily STart Learning Center (FAST). Verónica was an ESL and GED student in the same program, therefore, she understands the struggles of the students and she feels a strong connection with them because of her shared experiences. Her primary interest is to help her students overcome academically and move forward. Verónica is also a former AmeriCorps member of UIC project MORE (Making Opportunities for Reading Enrichment) She served for two years in an ESL classroom where she had the opportunity to learn and grow professionally. She earned an associate degree in Early Child Education from Harold Washington in Chicago. She is currently completing her bachelor's degree in education. Veronica strongly believes that literacy changes lives. She enjoys working and helping people in the community. In her free time she loves to read and listen to music.
