The Chicago Area Writing Project (CAWP), is one of 200 sites of the National Writing Project (NWP), a network of professional development sites anchored at colleges and universities that is committed to improving the teaching of writing and learning in schools in communities. Since 1979, the CAWP has served over 25,000 educators in its professional development programs. Throughout the school year, CAWP offers Friday and Saturday workshops, as well as school programs. It also hosts a yearly Invitational Summer Institute for teachers with at least three years of experience.
CAWP is currently hosted through the Center For Literacy and directed by Dr. Rebecca Woodard, Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction in UIC’s College of Education, and supported by Dr. Andrea Vaughan, Assistant Director of Research at the CFL.
