UIC Project MORE's AmeriCorps member of the week is bilingual GED tutor Viviana Vazquez-Hernandez! As a second-year member with Project MORE, Viviana has taken on a leadership role where she has supported adult learners with studying the Social Studies curriculum all year. She has continued this support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is what Viviana has shared about the students and their current experiences during the stay at home order:

"During this quarantine because of COVID-19, the Social Studies (GED) class had to change. With the San Miguel learning site being closed, I began to work on setting up an online tutoring session during regular class hours. I decided to implement Google classroom and there I add study information to continue helping my students. I consider this effort to be a great support to the student community of the bilingual adult education program because, in addition to continuing to study and preparing for their exam, they keep their minds busy on something other than the frightening coronavirus! The UIC FAST Bilingual program also created a survey for all students (150 in total.) We call students to offer an easier way to answer the survey, this includes questions that will help us figure out their needs during this stage, both to improve the online class, as well as what needs they have regarding the education of their children who are CPS students." - Viviana
